Hansen School District Community Gym

In the fall of 2017, the Hansen School District was very fortunate to have an anonymous community member donate $1,000,000 towards a new gymnasium for the district and the community. After months of planning and preparation, the facility broke ground on the northwest corner of Walnut Avenue and Rock Creek Road in Hansen. The facility was completed this spring and is available for use by the community We are excited and very grateful for this opportunity. The positive benefit it will have on the district and the community in the years to come will be tremendous!

At the May board meeting, trustees added the following language to the facility use agreement in regards to use of the community gym.

It is the intent of the Hansen School District to provide time for the community to use the community gym facility and, at the same time, be fiscally responsible for the maintenance of the facility with minimal impact on the general operation of the district. Therefore, an Annual Family Membership (purchased in August) for a fee of $100 or a monthly family membership at the cost of $15 per month may be purchased by patrons of Hansen School District. The District encourages patrons to report damages in a timely manner to keep maintenance costs to a minimum.

*Pre-arranged long-term rental for leagues serving students outside the Hansen School District 415 may be arranged with the Athletic Director and Building Principal. Long-term rental may last up to three (3) months. All fees associated with the rental must be paid before a code will be given.

Dome Technology Construction Statement

Dome Technology Construction Statement

Dome Technology was contracted to build the auxiliary gym, a $1 million structure located outside Twin Falls, Idaho, on the District 415 campus. The gym will feature a domed roof 120 feet in diameter built upon a 14-foot insulated-concrete-form stem wall. Total square footage is 11,310.

According to superintendent David Carson, the new gymnasium will make it easier for students and locals to schedule practice time and community events. “We were able to get a good facility at the price point we were looking at,” Carson said. “This will be used as a community center as well. Anytime you can have a second gym, it helps in a lot of ways.”

Construction began Sept. 4, and completion is set for early 2019. Features will include a regulation basketball court, an exercise room, a walking track, ADA-compliant bathrooms and locker rooms.

District officials expect lower utility costs with the dome versus traditional construction, Carson said. According to Dome Technology sales manager Daren Wheeler, the gym will not need to be conditioned because the dome’s concrete shell will absorb the energy during the day and discharge it back into the building during the night.

According to Dome Technology, the dome’s indefinite lifespan makes it a wise investment for the long term.

“It’s highly sustainable in that it’s never going to have to be replaced as far as the building envelope goes,” Wheeler said, adding that when complete, the gymnasium will significantly exceed current building codes for seismic and wind loading.
